„72 Hours Campaign in Georgia”

Briefly about the activity:

During the 72 Hours Campaign, we want to conduct an exchange between Georgian and German youngsters as well as local young people from Georgia. The campaign will promote sustainable practices and raise awareness about waste literacy, environmental challenges and recycling.

Through this event, we will have collective action, which will have a significant impact on the youngsters and future generations. The issues we will discuss and promote during the campaign will be important for the young people and the society we live in. On the other hand, collective efforts and faith will have an essential role during the project because that is the reason why we will be in Bakuriani - to make the world a happy place and promote solidarity between young people from different countries.

Needs:

Related to the topic of environment, local young people from Bakuriani, Georgia, are facing a lot of issues, from where we decided to address the following:

Lack of competencies needed to protect the environment - Young people don’t have the competencies to manage waste, separate it, and collect it to recycle. They also don’t have the attitude of doing it because they cannot realise how bad the impact is.

Behavioural barriers and problems - Because of the lack of competencies, their behaviour is not eco-friendly, which harms the town and the world in general.

Aim and objectives:

To address the mentioned issues, we set the aim to raise awareness of waste literacy among young people by promoting solidarity between Georgian and German youth.

To reach the aim, we set the following objectives:

• To develop the green competencies of local young people by involving them in green local actions

• To create and spread awareness-rising materials via field visits and online

• To discuss and share experiences of Georgia and Germany with local youth and beyond

• To promote a sense of solidarity between participating countries and develop intercultural understanding

Activities:

The campaign will involve six young people from Germany and eight from Georgia as the main initiators. The project will cover more than 30 local youngsters from Bakuriani and will reach more than 2000 through online media.

Preparational meeting - We will meet online and prepare for the 72-hour campaign, where we will divide the tasks, such as preparing the materials, logistic tasks, etc.

18-21 April - 72 Hour Campaign -

Several activities will be covered during the main event, such as two open workshops (one from a Georgian group and one from Germany) for each other and local youngsters, aiming to share the best practices of waste literacy.

Awareness-rising campaign – We will move in the streets and, together with the workshop participants, will raise awareness related to different elements of waste literacy (recycling codes, where to recycle, why recycling, etc.) by using offline tools (games, posters, pliers, etc.) created in advance. At the same time, we will start posting posters and videos on social media and spread them online.

“Change My Mind” street discussion - We will organise a stand in the centre of Bakuriani and put different statements related to the topic (E.g. Every person is responsible for nature, etc.) and will invite local young people to discuss those statements in public, involving others. The video of the street discussions will also be created and shared on social media.

Collecting Waste – At the end of the campaign, together as a group, we will be collecting waste and recyclable materials, which will be separated by the materials and will be transferred for recycling by involving local youngsters in the process. This activity will be promoted during all of our activities, so the youngsters will be informed in advance and ready to join us.
